Hello, I’m Bill and I’m a 40kaholic!
That’s right, I am addicted to this game, I have sought help, but no matter how hard I try, I can’t stop myself from rushing back to this expensive habit. It seems no matter how mad I get at something GW does or decide that my budget just doesn’t cover it, I always find myself drawn back to it. Why is this? Well, I have been doing a lot of pondering on this, especially in the light of having a Podcast that I have been working on. This has to do with many aspects of the hobby.
1st: The universe is amazing! The idea of futuristic war with alien races and daemons is awesome. With the time GW has had this product (over two decades now), the universe has expanded and been delved into by talented authors who have brought the dark future into a realistic image in our minds.
2nd: Time Enjoyment vs. Cost of playing and Replayability. Yes they are expensive, but I have been playing for over 13 years now. Some of those initial models I still field in my army (often out of nostalgia or lack of a desire to spend more money). What video game do you play that is 14 years old? (Ok, so every now and then I find and break out some old game just for kicks). As long as I have an opponent somewhere in the area, and living near a large city makes that likely, I can get a game in. The time I spend painting, the time I spend playing and now the time I spend working on a Podcast, all adds up to a lot of time, most of it pleasurable, that this hobby helps me fill. Add all that time up, and divide it by the total amount of money I have spent on the game, well I am sure the cost of fun per hour is far cheaper than any video game I have bought or any movie I have seen. All in all, the fact that I am still playing with an army I initially set down in 1996, is rather impressive to me.
Ok, this was going to be a little intro into myself, talking about my armies and my philosophy, but if your anything like me, you get tired of reading one post, so I will do another one at some point talking about me… I got into a written tangent here and went with it.
Tune in for more!
